Our immigration lawyers in Chicago. Before you trust us with your case, check up on us.
Here’s who will handle your case, where each of us is licensed and how you can confirm it yourself.

Marisol Valdenegro
Founding attorney
Marisol grew up six blocks from this office, translating government letters for her parents at the kitchen table. That table is why everything important here is handed over in writing.
She spent seven years at a nonprofit legal clinic before opening Valdenegro Law in 2011. She handles court cases, bond and humanitarian cases, and personally reviews every case that comes into the office.
Licensed in Illinois since 2004. ARDC No. 0000000 (fictional). Speaks Spanish and English.

Tomás Echarri
Associate attorney
Tomás joined the firm in 2022. He learned Spanish living in Guadalajara for two years and practices it every day at the front desk.
He handles citizenship, family petitions and renewals, and prepares every hearing with Marisol. His license is from Indiana; because immigration law is federal, he can handle immigration cases in Chicago.
Licensed in Indiana only. Practice limited to federal immigration law. Indiana Attorney No. 00000-00 (fictional). Speaks English and Spanish.

Lucía Barragán
Paralegal
Lucía is the first voice you’ll hear when you call. She prepares files, reminds you of every date and tells you exactly which document is missing.
She isn’t an attorney and doesn’t give legal advice. When your question needs a lawyer, she passes it to Marisol or Tomás the same day.
Not an attorney. Does not give legal advice. Speaks Spanish and English.
How we work
- By the next business day. We call you back or answer your message by the next business day.
- Everything in writing. Your options, the price and every important date, in writing.
- The price, first. You know what it costs before you sign anything.
- Every change, flagged. If something happens in your case, you hear it from us, not from a letter.

How to verify a lawyer
- Look the name up in the lawyer registry of the state where they’re licensed. In Illinois, that’s the ARDC registry.
- Call the office at the number listed there, not the number someone texted you.
- In this demo, the names are fictional and won’t appear in any registry.
